Outside backs is used to describe several playing positions in the sports of rugby league and rugby union: One of these Outside Back positions is called Scrum Half, which is usually a tiny and fast player. He is the link between the forwards and the backs. There is also the Fly Half, who is the leader of the backs. Another Outside Back player is the Left Winger, who is on the far left side of the back line. This player needs to be able to get out of situations, and is the victim of a lot of tackling. Then there is the Inside Centre, who is best known for, and needs to be skilled at, passing. The Outside Centre has another important passing position. If this person throws the ball too early or too late, then his teammate or himself will be in danger of getting tackled. The entire back line plays a critical role in the game of rugby. * Outside backs (rugby league) in rugby league football * Outside backs (rugby union) in rugby union football References 〔Macintosh, Iain.
